Being Thankful and Giving Back

Happy November! It's hard to believe 2019 is coming to an end. Looking back on this year I have so much to be thankful for.

One of my goals this year was to give back to the community in any way that I can.

Last month, I volunteered my second time with Holston Habitat for Humanity. It's such a great cause and you get to pick up some new skills along the way!

I would recommend it to anyone. There is a lot of physical work and you have to use tools, but it's all worth it.

This time, we were helping build a home for a local veteran and it happened to be the 300th home that Holston Habitat for Humanity built.

It was supposed to be a women's build, but only one other woman showed up that day. But we got a lot of work done and I happened to have met her a couple of times before! We had a great time and learned a lot.

Our job was to measure, cut and hammer in beams for cabinets to be placed onto later. I'm not exactly sure of the terminology, but you get the idea. We both used a table saw (it was my first time, but it was fun)! I was scared at first and was having a hard time getting the measurements just right- but I finally got the hang of it. We completed the kitchen in just a couple of hours!

I volunteered for the women's build back in 2017 as well. That day, we helped build the walls for a home. It was a day full of hammering and I was very sore the next day. But we got to write personal letters on the walls to the homeowner's and leave our well wishes.

I am thankful to have a roof over my head and am so happy to help others have one as well.

My goal next year is to volunteer even more and help give back. If you have an organization that you like to volunteer with, please share it with me!
